CISA Honors Baosteel and its High Grade Automotive Sheet
08/11/2008 - The China Iron and Steel Association awards Baosteel the honorary title of ‘China Iron & Steel Industry Clean Production and Environment-Friendly Enterprise’.
The China Iron and Steel Association (CISA) recently awarded Baosteel Co., Ltd. the honorary title of “China Iron & Steel Industry Clean Production and Environment-Friendly Enterprise”. In addition, CISA also awarded Baosteel’s high-grade steel sheet for passenger car the "China Iron & Steel Industry Product Development and Market Pioneering Award".
CISA presented the two newly developed awards on July 30 during the 4th Session of CISA’s 3rd Executive Council.
CISA initially developed the honorary title of "China Iron & Steel Industry Clean Production and Environment-Friendly Enterprise" and "China Iron & Steel Industry Product Development and Market Pioneering Award" in support of the central government’s requirements for building innovation across the country. The awards are designed to help guide development of the iron & steel industry with the scientific view toward development, adjusting and optimizing the industrial structure, strengthening resource conservation and environmental protection, encouraging the enterprises to actively carry out independent innovation, and achieving fast and beneficial development. CISA started work on application, examination and appraisal for the 2 awards in May 2007.
Baosteel’s long-term developmental direction is dedicated to building a resource-conserving, environment-friendly enterprise through sustainable development. The core enterprise Baosteel Branch aims at the world level and explores a new road of industrialization development by adopting clean production technology and strictly controlling the formation and release of contaminations, which set an example of sustainable development for other domestic steelmakers.
After the additional issuance and merging, the various branches and affiliates of Baosteel established scientific and normative environment management systems, relying on the advanced management and techniques of the Baosteel Branch. As a result of more than 2 years’ effort, Baosteel’s branches and affiliates have passed the external examination for the ISO14001 Environment Management System, and also reached the requirements for environment-friendly enterprises.
To fulfill the needs of development of China’s automotive industry and to promote the level of steel sheet manufacturing, Baosteel developed cold-rolled and zinc-plated sheet with superior mechanical properties and surface quality that meet the requirements for medium- to high-grade inner/outer sheets for passenger-car bodies. Baosteel’s developments were the result of years of effort in innovation, R&D, improved technical equipment, etc.
Currently, Baosteel has more than 270 designations of high-grade automotive sheet. Among them the high-strength IF steel, bake-hardened steel, isotropic steel, cold-rolled & CGL duplex steel, and TRIP steel filled the domestic gap in this field. Smelting control technology has resulted in super-low carbon, nitrogen and oxygen, and the technology for improved accuracy in hot-rolled strip temperature control for these products have helped to reach world levels in the stability of strip performance, and have led to the formation of 102 items of technical know-how and 56 patents, including 16 invention patents.
