Cleveland-Cliffs Introduces Electrical Steel for High-Frequency Motors
12/13/2022 - Cleveland-Cliffs Inc. is bringing to market a branded line of non-oriented electrical steels designed for high-frequency motors and generators, the company has announced.
According to Cleveland-Cliffs, its MOTOR-MAX product line has use in high-speed motors, aircraft generators and other rotating equipment, especially electric vehicle (EV) traction motors.
“EV traction motors are one of the most crucial components of electric vehicles and utilizing MOTOR-MAX high-frequency electrical steels will improve the overall efficiency and performance of the motor,” the company said.
The company said it is able to make MOTOR-MAX non-oriented steels in its U.S. electric arc furnaces, utilizing direct reduced iron and recycled steel scrap.
“The company maintains control over the entire production cycle, using U.S.-sourced materials, incorporating recycling and other environmentally friendly sustainable practices,” it said.
