Commerce Department Proposes Big Countervailing Duty on Chinese-Made Plate
09/08/2016 - The U.S. Commerce Department has set preliminary countervailing duties of 210.5 percent on Chinese-made cut to length plate, ruling that producers there have been benefitting from unfair government subsidies.
The department announced its finding Wednesday. The case arises on a complaint from Nucor Corp., SSAB Enterprises and ArcelorMittal USA.
The companies also are seeking the imposition of anti-dumping duties on cut-to-length plate made in 11 other countries -- Austria, Belgium, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, South Korea, Taiwan, Brazil, South Africa and Turkey – in addition to China.
The Commerce Department is to announce preliminary findings on that matter in November.
