Concast to Upgrade Southern Steel Berhad DC EAF and Continuous Caster

04/11/2008 - Southern Steel Berhad awards Concast AG a contract to upgrade its existing electric arc furnace and five-strand continuous caster.

Southern Steel Berhad, Malaysia, has awarded Concast AG, Switzerland, a contract to upgrade its existing electric arc furnace and five-strand continuous caster.
 
Concast’s scope of supply includes a furnace platform and a gantry system with roof-lifting device with hydraulic components for the existing DC electric arc furnace. The expansion project includes hydraulic oscillators and mold stirrers (M-EMS) as well as cartridge molds.
 
This project follows Concast’s revamp (last year) of the existing five-strand continuous caster to allow submerged casting. It is scheduled to be completed by the end of 2008.
 
Concast AG, Switzerland, is a company of the SMS group.
