Danieli Service Replaces Upcoiler Mandrel Using New 3D Scanning Capability

The company said its 3D scanning technology translates real life physical objects into precise computer-assisted, 3D representation (CAD) models. This saves execution time and logistics while providing greater accuracy.

Danieli Service’s specialty team performed a complete technical survey of the mandrel at the site without international logistics or delays. The 3D scanning system yielded hundredth of a millimeter measurements, detecting a 4-mm deformation on the 5-m-long shaft.

Using the measurements, mandrel designers were able to perform reverse engineering to reestablish the machine’s original dimensions. It also improved functionality and duration while maintaining the overall shape, the company said.

The work at Maghreb Steel didn’t need any modification to the existing on-site equipment.
