Danieli to Supply Billet Steelmaking Plant for Kosco

Korea Steel Shapes Co., Ltd. (Kosco), Korea, has contracted Danieli Centro Met to supply a complete steel meltshop for its facility in Chilseo, Haman-Gu, Kyung Nam Area.
 
The new meltshop will be designed to produce 800,000 tonnes/year of conticast billets using the most up-to-date and proven technologies. It will comprise a two-bay scrapyard, 100-tonne EAF and ladle furnace, material handling system, and a five-strand 9-meter-radius FastCast™ conticaster. Operations will be supported by a fume treatment plant plus other auxiliary equipment and facilities.
 
The AC FastArc™ EAF will feature a high-impedance design and conductive arms, as well as HiREG Plus and Module technology for optimized use of alternative energy. The caster, equipped with high-speed molds, mold EMS, and hydraulic-type oscillating tables, will produce 120- to 185-mm quality square billets.
 
The whole plant will be equipped with Level 1 and Level 2 automation and process control systems supplied by Danieli Automation.
 
Startup of the new plant is scheduled for the end of 2008.
