Danieli to Supply Compact Rougher for Celsa Huta Ostrowiec

April 2007 — Celsa Huta Ostrowiec, Poland, recently awarded an order to Danieli for a second major modification to its Huta Ostrowiec double-strand bar mill, aimed at further increasing plant productivity and efficiency, as well as at enabling the rolling of larger size billets.

A new four-stand twist-free single-strand roughing mill made up of heavy-duty SHS housingless stands will be added to the existing mill, for high-speed breakdown rolling of 160x160-mm billets coming from the new 180-tonne/hour walking beam reheat furnace. Danieli will also supply furnace delivery facilities, including a billet descaler, as well as a cropping shear, diverter, and roller table with heat-retaining hoods following the new rougher, to feed the existing mill on two strands.

Installation of the new compact rougher will enable the mill to reach a production capacity of up to 180 tonnes/hour. The larger starting material will also make it possible to produce 2.9-tonne coils at the Danieli spooler lines, and will increase the overall plant efficiency, product quality, and material yield, enhancing production costs.

This project follows Danieli’s first-stage plant upgrade with two new Danieli Spooler lines that are due for startup this summer. Startup of the new roughing mill is scheduled for the end of 2007.
