March 2007 — Tangshan Guofeng Iron and Steel Co. Ltd., P.R. China, recently placed an order with Danieli for a new hot skinpass mill.

The 4-high single-stand mill will operate in both skinpass mode, for thicknesses from 1.2 to 6.5 mm, and dividing mode for the upper thickness range, at a maximum speed of 500 meter/minute. The mill will be equipped with HAGC system mounted at the top of the mill stand, and positive and negative work roll bending cylinders mounted in the mid-housing E-blocks. Mill automation will provide mill setup and control of set elongation, speed, tensions, and required rolling and bending forces.

The new line will process up to 650,000 tonne/year of carbon, high-quality carbon, and HSLA steel strip with thicknesses ranging from 1.2 to 12.7 mm, and widths ranging from 600 to 1,300 mm. The new facility is expected to result in significant improvements for strip flatness, surface condition, and coil shape, which will help Guofeng to supply a highly qualified product and to enter new market areas.

Danieli Wean United, Danieli Metallurgical Equipment (Beijing), and Danieli Automation will supply and integrate all mechanical and electrical equipment.

This order, Tangshan’s third consecutive order with Danieli, follows the June 2006 inauguration of a high-performance hot strip mill, and a subsequent (December 2006) order for a second hot strip mill.
