Danieli to Supply Stainless Slab Caster for ThyssenKrupp Terni
09/21/2007 - ThyssenKrupp Stahl awards a contract to Danieli Davy Distington to supply, install, and commission a new single-strand slab caster at the Acciai Speciali Terni facility in Italy.
ThyssenKrupp Stahl (TKS) recently awarded a contract to Danieli Davy Distington to supply, install, and commission a new single-strand slab caster at the Acciai Speciali Terni facility in Italy.
The caster will have an annual capacity of 0.95 million tonnes of slabs covering the complete range of stainless steel grades, including AISI 200, 300 and 400 families, i.e. austenitic, ferritic and martensitic grades. The caster will be capable of producing slab sizes ranging in width from 800 to 1600 mm, and ranging in length from 5000 to 11,000 mm. Cold slab thickness will be 215 mm.
The existing ladle turret, casting floor equipment, and caster steel structures will be reused, and all remaining equipment will be replaced. The tunnel furnace will be dismantled and replaced by a traditional roller way to convey the slabs to the hot strip mill area for hot charging.
The main goal of this challenging project is to enhance product quality and reduce transformation costs. To support these goals, the new caster design will help to reduce the amount of slab inspection, virtually eliminate grinding practices before rolling, and maximize hot charge practices at the mill.
Other than foundation modifications, Danieli Davy Distington will supply the project on a complete turnkey basis. Danieli is committed to completing the job, from old caster shutdown to the first heat of the new one, in just 90 days.
