EPA Cites Nucor Steel for Clean-Air Violations

Sep. 29, 2006 — U.S. Environmental Protection Agency Region 5 has cited Nucor Steel for alleged clean-air violations at its Crawfordsville, Ind., minimill.

EPA alleges that Nucor exceeded limits on carbon monoxide emissions from one of its furnace stacks. The alleged violations were discovered during tests done June 14 by a company contractor.
These are preliminary findings of violations. To resolve them, EPA may issue a compliance order, assess an administrative penalty or bring suit against the company. Nucor has 30 days from receipt of the notice to meet with EPA to discuss resolving the allegations.
