Fives to Install Intelligent Quality Management System for Marcegaglia Ravenna

Fives said Eyeron was developed for steelmakers and tracks all process steps, quality events and production information across the workshops and automatically qualifies products in real time.

“We were looking for an intelligent solution to ensure the best quality and substantially reduce the rate of downgraded coils. Eyeron will be installed throughout the Ravenna plant to bring our production process and quality management to a higher level,” said Michele Manaresi, quality manager of Marcegaglia Ravenna.

The installation of Eyeron is the second phase of the companies’ ongoing project. The first phase took place in 2024 and included a pilot solution which generated real-time quality process alarms. This allowed operators to correct quality deviations and increase first-time, first-choice coils.

The second phase involves data collection, rule enforcement and dashboard customization for the entire plant. The aim is to consolidate process and quality-related information on a single device. Data can be analyzed remotely by all users from any mobile device or computer, the company said.

The companies said this will be the second digital solution Fives has supplied to Marcegaglia’s plant in recent years. In 2021, the fully automatic control system for enhanced coil processing, SmartLineTM, was installed on four galvanizing lines.
