Fluor to Expand South Carolina Plant of Showa Denko Carbon
06/03/2011 - Fluor Corp. was awarded an engineering, procurement, and construction contract by Showa Denko Carbon, Inc., to expand its graphite products manufacturing facility in Ridgeville, S.C.
Fluor Corp. was awarded an engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) contract by Showa Denko Carbon, Inc., to expand its graphite products manufacturing facility in Ridgeville, S.C. Located in Dorchester County, the Showa Denko plant produces graphite material for the steel and automotive supplier industries.
Fluor booked the undisclosed contract value in the first quarter of 2011.
For the expansion project, Fluor will perform EPC services that will be led by its Greenville, S.C., office. The engineering and procurement scope of the project is currently under way, and Fluor will self-perform significant portions of the construction scope of the project.
Showa Denko has operated the graphite manufacturing plant since 1988, producing premium graphite electrodes for electric arc furnace steel production. The company expects the expansion to allow it to meet increasing demand for its products.
