Gerdau Açominas Selects Tenova to Supply Walking Beam Furnaces

Gerdau Açominas and Tenova LOI Italimpianti recently signed a contract for the supply of two walking beam furnaces for slabs to be installed in the new Plate/Steckel mills of the Gerdau Açominas Plant in Ouro Branco, Brazil.

The two walking beam furnaces, with a production capacity of 220/265 tonnes per hour each, will be designed according to LOI Italimpianti’s high-quality reheating furnaces “FlexyTech technology,” which the company says saves energy.

Tenova’s scope of supply will also include a complete material handling system to transport the slabs from charging to the discharging side as well as the supply of an L2 system for both production tracking and reheating optimization.

Reheating optimization is based on the use of an on-line thermal model, which represents, according to Tenova, the most advanced technology in terms of hardware platform and software development, improving the processed material’s quality.
