GM Honors Posco with Global Supplier of the Year Award

05/28/2008 - Posco recently received the General Motors 2007 Global Supplier of the year Award, one of only three steel corporations to receive this award for 2007.

Posco recently received the General Motors 2007 Global Supplier of the year Award, the first time the company had received this award.
 
GM evaluated approximately 3700 suppliers from last year before awarding the Global Supplier of the year Award to 90 companies. Included in the award winners were three steel corporations, one of which was Posco.
 
GM began its awards program in 1992 to recognize and encourage the supply of superior materials. GM adjudicators represent major disciplines within the company, including purchasing, engineering, production, distribution etc. After evaluating suppliers based on quality, service, technology, and price, the group selects and awards the outstanding suppliers.
 
During that time period, Posco conducted its EVI (Early Vendor Involvement) activities. This program reflected proactive early development of new automobiles with GM, as well as addressing the demands of automobile and parts suppliers.
 
Posco also made significant contributions to efforts to reduce both the weight and cost of automobiles through the supply of advanced high strength steels (AHSS), and helped to optimize the automotive manufacturing process by proposing TWB (Tailor Welded Blanks) and other new processing techniques.
 
In the future, Posco said it will continue to go beyond being just a company supplying steel to GM, but will further raise its status as a global automobile steel plate manufacturer growing together with the customer.
 
Posco also noted that its auto steel sheets have received favorable evaluation response from leading motor companies including Volkswagen, Daimler Chrysler, Honda, Nissan, etc. In December 2006, the company’s AHSS auto steel sheet (60kg grade high strength GA steel plate) acquired quality certification from Daimler Chrysler.
 
Posco was also recognized in May 2007 by Volkswagen for outstanding quality and timely delivery, becoming the only steel company to receive the company’s Global Supplier of the year Award. In August, Posco also obtained the Q1 certification for being an outstanding supplier from Ford, one of America’s top 3 motor companies.
