GSCC Certifies Vallourec’s Decarbonization Strategy
07/08/2026 - Tubular solutions company Vallourec announced its decarbonization strategy has been certified by the Global Steel Climate Council (GSCC).
GSCC-approved certification body CARES conducted the assessment on Vallourec’s Corporate Average Steel Emissions Intensity (CASEI) strategy. Through various decarbonization initiatives, the company was able to bring down the CO2e from 1.70 metric tons per metric ton of hot-rolled steel to 1.16 from 2021 to 2025. This aligns with the GSCC’s standard to remain below 1.20 metric tons of CO2e per metric tons by 2030.
“By combining operational excellence, low-carbon steelmaking, circularity and innovation, we are turning this ambition into tangible results across our industrial footprint, while continuing to deliver the premium tubular solutions our customers rely on,” said Philippe Guillemot, chairman of the board of directors and chief executive officer of the Vallourec Group.
The company said it achieved its greenhouse gas emissions reduction goals 3 years ahead of schedule. Next, it plans to reduce the carbon footprint of its finished tubes by 30% and to reduce overall Scope 1, 2 and 3 emissions by 25% by 2030.
“We are pleased to welcome Vallourec to the GSCC as our first certified member operating both integrated and electric arc furnace (EAF) steel production, demonstrating that meaningful decarbonization is achievable across all technology pathways,” said Adina Renee Adler, executive director of GSCC.
Vallourec joins eight other certified members which have already lowered CO2e by almost 3 million metric tons, Adler continued.
