Hertwich Engineering, Austria, successfully commissioned a billet saw at Weseralu GmbH in Minden, Germany. During a revamp of the press works, Weseralu invested in a saw for round billets to perform the cutting-to-length operation in-house in the future. With the new saw, the aluminum producer expects to optimize the flow of material, resulting in cost savings.
Hertwich’s scope of supply comprised the feed magazine, the round-billet saw, a length gage, stacker, and pin marking unit. The sawing plant is designed for a diameter range from 145 to 254 mm. The company says a mock-up of the complete equipment at the Hertwich workshop enabled installation and commissioning in three weeks.
Hertwich Engineering GmbH, part of SMS Meer, is a company of the SMS group, which is, under the roof of SMS Holding GmbH, a group of companies internationally active in plant construction and mechanical engineering for the steel and nonferrous metals industry.
