India's SAIL to Increase Ferroalloy Plant Capacity
08/09/2012 - Indian state-owned steel producer Steel Authority of India Limited’s (SAIL) Chandrapur Ferro Alloys Plant (CFP) will expand its ferroalloy production capacity by 70% by installing one 45 MVA submerged arc furnace.
Indian state-owned steel producer Steel Authority of India Limited’s (SAIL) Chandrapur Ferro Alloys Plant (CFP) will expand its ferroalloy production capacity by 70% from its current level of 100,000 tonnes per year by installing one 45 MVA submerged arc furnace, a company official said on 8 August.
CFP producers manganese-based ferroalloys and supplies SAIL’s integrated mills. The official, however, declined to disclose the amount of investment required for the expansion.
The expansion of ferroalloy production capacity at CFP is in line with SAIL’s expansion of steelmaking capacity to 24 million tonnes per year from 13 million tonnes per year, with SAIL’s overall expansion project scheduled to be completed in 2013.
SAIL has also announced a joint venture with MOIL Limited (formerly Manganese Ore India Limited) to construct a 160,000 tonne per year ferroalloy plant in the central Indian province of Chattisgarh, at an investment of $73 million.
The project will produce 31,000 tonnes per year of ferromanganese and 75,000 tonnes per year of silicomanganese; price negotiations amid tenders floated for the furnace are currently ongoing, an official said.
