ISSF Launches Website Celebrating 100 Years of Stainless Steel

In celebration of the century that has passed since the creation, patenting and production of stainless steels, the International Stainless Steel Forum (ISSF) has launched a website dedicated to the history of stainless steel and its innovative applications.

The website — www.stainlesssteelcentenary.info — features facts about stainless steel, images of stainless steel applications from the past century, and a detailed history of the material.

ISSF is also launching a travelling exhibition about stainless steel in Beijing, China on May 15, 2012. After Beijing, the exhibition will move on to various other locations around the world.

The ISSF noted that stainless steel production has increased dramatically over the past ten years to a record 31 million tonnes in 2010. That growth is only likely to increase as the sustainability benefits of stainless steel continue to become better known. Its relatively low carbon footprint and 100% recyclability ensure that stainless steel will have a major role to play in a sustainable future.

The '100 Years of Stainless Steel' website and exhibition are sponsored by ISSF and members of the Team Stainless network.

Team Stainless is an informal network of industry associations that represent the stainless steel industry and its main alloying elements. Members include ISSF; Euro Inox; the International Chromium Development Association (ICDA); the International Molybdenum Association (IMOA); and the Nickel Institute.
