Jiexiu Xintai Produces First Beams on Section Mill from SMS Meer

Jiexiu Xintai Iron & Steel Co. Ltd., Jiexiu, Shanxi Province, China, has commissioned its section mill for steel beams that was supplied by SMS Meer, Germany.

The heavy beam mill is equipped with universal roll stands of CCS® (Compact Cartridge Stand) design. The mill features hydraulic roll adjustment control and a rigid stand construction that will allow final dimensions to be rolled with close tolerances. The line also features a CRS® roller straightener with nine straightening rollers supported by bearings on both sides, hydraulic roller adjustment and automatic changing stands for high flexibility, high straightening quality, and minimum residual stresses.

Rolled stock is cut into finished lengths by cold saws that ensure low cutting costs. According to the company, the first four double-T beams rolled of 400 x 400 mm were within the specified tolerances.

The mill employs the XH® universal beam rolling principle developed by SMS Meer. This technology, which allows particularly large beams to be rolled with close tolerances, will also help Jiexiu Xintai to increase the quality of its products.

The plant at Jiexiu Xintai is the ninth section mill to be supplied to China by SMS Meer. The company will use the mill to roll beams in the size range from 200 to 1000 mm. The plant has an annual capacity of 1.2 million tonnes.
