JSW Steel Reports 45% Growth in Q1 Crude Steel Production
07/06/2009 - JSW Steel reports 45% growth in crude steel production in the first quarter of FY 2009-10, with the increase due primarily to the recent expansion at Vijayanagar works.
JSW Steel Limited reported a 45% growth in crude steel production in the first quarter of FY 2009-10.
The company produced 1.409 million tonnes of crude steel in the first quarter, representing a 45% increase over the previous year’s first quarter. Flat rolled product production totaled 870,000 tonnes, a 47% increase over the year-ago first quarter; while long steel rolled products production totaled 186,000 tonnes, a 103% increase over the same period. The comparison takes into account the 17-day shutdown of the Vijayanagar works hot strip mill for a modernization project in June 2008.
First quarter tonnages include trial production of 34,000 tonnes crude steel 6000 tonnes of long steel products.
JSW Steel noted that the strong growth in both crude steel and long steel production was mainly on account of production from the 2.8-million-tonne/year expansion project at Vijayanagar works, which included commissioning of India’s largest blast furnace and the first eight-strand billet caster on the Indian subcontinent.
