Kobe Steel Establishes Steel Wire Processing Company in China

Kobe Steel, Ltd. has established a company in Foshan, Guangdong Province, China to make steel wire for use in high-quality springs. The new company, called Kobelco Spring Wire (Foshan) Co., Ltd. (KSW), will begin operations in the first half of 2013.

KSW will be located within the premises of sister company Kobe Wire Products (Foshan) Co., Ltd., and it will receive technical assistance from Shinko Wire Co., Ltd. and Suncall Corp. for the secondary processing of steel wire rod.

KSW is capitalized at 650 million yen. It will have a production capacity of 600 tonnes per month. The company is a wholly owned subsidiary of Kobelco Holding (China) Co., Ltd., Kobe Steel's China headquarters.

Kobe Steel anticipates that demand for high-grade steel wire for engine valve springs and other automotive springs made from its wire rod will increasingly grow in China. When KSW begins operating, plans call for steel wire, which is exported, to shift to local production to meet market demand.

Established in Foshan, Guangdong Province, China, in November 2004, Kobe Wire Products (Foshan) Co., Ltd. manufactures and sells CHQ wire and cold-finished steel bar. Shareholding companies are: Kobe Steel, Ltd. 60%; Metal One Corp. 19%; Sugita Wire, Ltd. 10.5%; and Kyodo Shaft Co., Ltd. 10.5%.

Located in Amagasaki, Hyogo Prefecture, Japan, Shinko Wire Company, Ltd. manufactures and sells steel wire, wire rope, and other products.

Suncall Corp. is located in Kyoto, Japan, and employs about 2070 people. Its business includes the manufacture and sale of automotive parts, electronic and information-related products, and optical communication devices.

Kobelco (China) Holding Co., Ltd. in Shanghai, China, was established in January 2011 and has 16 employees.
