Alleima Launches Enhanced Corrosion-Resistant Steel Grade for Urea Industry

The company said the grade was developed to meet the requirements of the urea industry. It requires excellent durability and reliability of the materials which operate in the urea synthesis process. SAF™ 2906 features include resistance to carbamate solutions, resistance to pitting and crevice corrosion, high resistance to stress corrosion cracking (SCC), good weldability and high mechanical strength.

The composition of the grade has high chromium and nitrogen content, and a moderate amount of molybdenum for corrosion resistance in carbamate solutions, even with low oxygen concentrations. It also has high resistance to localized corrosion and SCC caused by chlorides.

The combination of corrosion resistance and high mechanical strength has design advantages which allow for lighter construction and thinner wall thickness. SAF 2906 can be used in the high-pressure section of the urea plant for all components.

The new grade adds to Alleima’s portfolio of products required to fabricate equipment for urea plants including bar, plate, tube, pipe, welding consumables, complementary products, forging blocks and more.
