Maanshan Commissions SMS Mevac Duplex RH Plant
02/21/2012 - Maanshan Iron & Steel (Group) Co., Ltd., in Maanshan, China, has successfully commissioned the new duplex RH plant delivered by SMS Mevac GmbH, Germany. The plant is designed to treat heats with a nominal weight of 120 tonnes and features two treatment positions.

The plant is designed to treat heats with a nominal weight of 120 tonnes and features two treatment positions. Each treatment position is equipped with a hydraulic ladle lifting system, a burner lance, and a vacuum alloying system for the addition of ferroalloys under low pressure conditions.
The vacuum is generated via a four-stage steam ejector vacuum pump system with variable pressure reduction for optimized process control.
The duplex RH plant is part of a new electric steelmaking shop that will produce, among other products, semi-finished products for high-speed train wheels.
The scope of supply for SMS Mevac included the complete basic engineering, main parts of the detail engineering, delivery of mechanical, electrical, and instrumentation key components, the complete level-1 and level-2 automation system, as well as supervision of the erection and commissioning.
The AGC 4000-type automatic inert gas coupling systems are included for the whole steelmaking shop.
