Magnitogorsk Announces New Appointment at MMK Metalurji

MMK Metalurji, part of the MMK Group, announced the appointment of Sergei Sulimov as Acting General Director of MMK Metalurji. Sulimov currently serves as Deputy General Director for company relations at MMK Group, has been named.

The company also announced that Yury Bodyayev, previously General Director of MMK Metalurji, will return to his position as Director of Production at MMK.

“These changes are driven by the new goals facing MMK Metalurji,” said MMK CEO Boris Dubrovsky. “Yury Bodyayev oversaw changes to production at MMK Metalurji, in particular the introduction of 1 mm hot-rolled coil. Now our main priority is to build effective business processes and boost the company's efficiency. Sergei Sulimov will take charge of achieving this.”

Construction of the facility — which is located at two production sites in Iskenderun and Istanbul, Turkey — began in March 2008. The facility has a production capacity of 2.3 million tons of flat steel per year, and represents total investments of around $2.1 billion.

MMK Metalurji currently operates the facility’s electric arc furnace facility, cold rolling mill, galvanizing and color coating lines and two service centers located in Iskenderun and Istanbul. The electric arc furnace facility in Iskenderun was commissioned in March, 2011, and the first hot-rolled coil was produced in May, 2011.

To supply raw and input materials to the Iskenderun plant and ship its products to customers a sea port capable of catering ships of up to 100,000 dwt was built and operates next to the production site.
