Maruichi Stainless Tube Taps SMS group for Complete Production Line for Extruded Stainless Steel Tubes

SMS group said it will provide the full range of equipment including heating systems and the forming tube extrusion press with associated automation technology.

“By combining advanced technology, precise engineering and a focus on quality, the new stainless steel tube production sets new standards in innovation and efficiency,” said Toru Tsunakawa, managing director of SMS group K.K.

The heating systems are fully electrified and have a horizontal preheating system for the billets, an intermediate heating system for heating before perforation punching and a final heating system for heating prior to extrusion. The core forming units will have an expansion press and next-generation horizontal tube extrusion press for extruding preholed billets with a runout system including water quench tank.

Maruichi said it is expanding the range of possible dimensions for stainless steel pipe production by increasing the extrusion force of the horizontal extrusion press from 20 to 50 meganewtons.

The plant will also feature an automated production system including state-of-the-art machinery to optimize the manufacturing process. The automation solutions increase productivity, minimize human error and ensure consistent quality across production stages. The line will also have the production control system Management Information Diagnostic Indication System (MIDIS) for the monitoring and control of all processing, SMS group said.

Construction of the building is expected to be completed by the end of 2026, followed by the placing of equipment. Start-up of production is planned during 2027, once Japanese Industrial Standards (JIS) certification has been obtained, the companies said.
