May U.S. Steel Shipments Up From April, Down from Prior Year
07/16/2013 - The American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI) reported that for the month of May 2013, U.S. steel mills shipped 8,047,245 tons, a 0.9% increase from the 7,978,531 tons shipped in the previous month, April 2013, and a 4.6% decrease from the 8,436,831 tons shipped in May 2012.
Shipments year-to-date in 2013 are 39,595,155 tons, a 6.0% decrease vs. 2012 shipments of 42,100,270 tons for five months.
A comparison of May shipments to the previous month of April shows the following changes: hot rolled sheet, up 5%, hot dipped galvanized sheets and strip, down 1% and cold rolled sheet, down 10%.
