Mechel Reports Suspension of Smelting at Otelu Rosu
03/12/2012 - Mechel OAO reports that the company has temporarily halted smelting production at its Otelu Rosu facility due damages to the facility’s EAF when slag and steel leaked through the unit’s inner lining.
Mechel OAO reports that the company has temporarily halted smelting production at its Otelu Rosu facility due to a contingency situation.
Ductil Steel Otelu Rosu plant’s electric arc furnace #2 was halted on March 10 due to technical reasons. As a result of a malfunction in the technological process, slag and steel went through the inner protective coating. The leak in the inner lining caused damage to the furnace as well as to auxiliary communications.
The company noted that its experts were currently assessing the situation in order to determine the best measures to eliminate the effects of the malfunction.
