MEIC GE Awarded First Rolling Mill Contract in Egypt

March 2007 — General Metals Co. has awarded TMEIC GE a contract to modernize its single-stand aluminum cold mill in Cairo, Egypt. The project will be TMEIC GE’s first metals rolling automation project in Egypt.
TMEIC GE will install advanced automation equipment including a new shape roll to sense strip flatness, a new X-ray gage for thickness measurement, two controllers for automatic control, and an operator screen.
TMEIC GE has partnered with the Polish mechanical engineering company HpH to provide installation engineering and services for this equipment.
Delivery is scheduled for September 2007, with system commissioning scheduled for November 2007.
TMEIC GE is a joint venture between Toshiba, Mitsubishi Electric, and General Electric in the industrial drive systems business. The company employs 2200 people and has annual sales in excess of $1B.
