Meishan Iron & Steel Celebrates Startup of New Blast Furnace
05/15/2009 - Meishan Iron & Steel celebrates the start-up of its new Blast Furnace No. 4 with an ignition and furnace startup ceremony.
Meishan Iron & Steel Co., Ltd recently celebrated the start-up of its new Blast Furnace No. 4 with an ignition and furnace startup ceremony.
The new Blast Furnace No. 4 completes Meishan Company's 3.5 million tons of steel production capacity, and lays a solid foundation for the company to build a critical premium carbon steel base. The blast furnace represents the keystone of the company’s active response to the national iron steel industry policy and circular economy development requirements by eliminating technical equipment with outdated process and building up resource-conserving and environment-friendly processes.
The new blast furnace features state-of-the-art technologies including bituminous coal dense phase injection and dry dedusting technique, as well as a high level of independent intellectual property and highly integrated innovation. The furnace incorporates a nationally produced BF top and front equipment as well as a range of new processes, technologies and equipment.
Once the new blast furnace commences production, it will help to significantly reinforce Meishan's ironmaking capacity, further enhancing the company’s pig iron production cost-efficiency, comprehensive power consumption per steel ton, and water consumption per steel ton. The new unit also features enhanced residual heat recovery, and reduces process outflows including waste exhaust gases, waste water, and dust, which will help to improve the ecological environment of Nanjing and its vicinity.
Meishan initiated installation of the 3200-m3 blast furnace on August 10, 2007. Meishan worked effectively together with a group of partners including CISDI, SBC, Sinosteel Xi'an Machinery Co., Baosteel Supervision Company, and a number of other participants.
Fire for the new blast furnace was ignited by Baosteel Group Company President and Baoshan Iron & Steel President Xu Lejiang, along with Baoshan Iron & Steel General Manager Ma Guoqiang, Baoshan Iron & Steel Deputy General Manager Li Yongxiang, Pang Yuanlin, and other leaders from Meishan Iron & Steel Co. Ltd.
In his speech, Ma Guoqiang noted that in the face of the present harsh challenge brought about by the economic crisis, “we will not waver (regarding) our objective of building Baosteel into the most competitive iron and steel enterprise in the world.”
