MWL Brasil Commissions SMS Concast Vacuum Degassing Facility
06/25/2009 - MWL Brasil Manufacturers, Caçapava (SP) and SMS AG Concast commission a new 35-tonne vacuum degassing facility supplied by SMS Concast.
MWL Brasil Manufacturers, Caçapava (SP), Brazil, and SMS AG Concast have successfully commissioned a new 35-tonne vacuum degassing facility supplied by SMS Concast.
As a producer of high-quality railway wheels and axles, MWL Brasil Manufacturers’ products face increasingly higher performance requirements in terms of reliability and durability. Its customers are increasingly requesting degassed steel with hydrogen content of ≤ 2 ppm for their wheels.
To help MWL Brasil Manufacturers meet its customers’ increasingly stringent quality demands, SMS Concast supplied a latest-generation vacuum degassing facility that is based on the use of mechanical roots pumps. During the first week of operation, ten heats were degassed. From the second week onwards, the facility operated in normal production mode with ‘highly satisfactory metallurgical results’.
SMS Concast, Zurich, Switzerland, is a company of the SMS group, Germany.
