22 August 2013 - On 8 July 2013, the service experts of Paul Wurth do Brasil performed a 24-hour preventive maintenance program at blast furnaces No. 1 and 2 and at the INBA® slag granulation facilities of ThyssenKrupp CSA’s integrated steel plant at Sepetiba Bay in Brazil. It was the first time ever that Paul Wurth was in charge of such a servicing package.

AK Steel Reaches Environmental Agreement with U.S. EPA and Kentucky

22 August 2013 - AK Steel has reached an agreement to settle an action brought on behalf of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and Commonwealth of Kentucky under the Clean Air Act and other statutes and regulations with respect to AK Steel's former Ashland, Ky., coke plant.  The agreement was reached without admission of the alleged violations by AK Steel.

Ternium, Tenaris and Tecpetrol to Build and Operate Power Plant in Mexico

20 August 2013 - Ternium S.A., Tenaris S.A. and Tecpetrol International S.A. have entered into a memorandum of understanding to jointly build and operate a natural gas-fired combined cycle electric power plant in Mexico, which would supply Ternium’s and Tenaris’s respective Mexican industrial facilities.

Reuters: Hungary Offers to Buy Steelmaker Dunaferr to Save Jobs

20 August 2013 - Hungary's government will offer to buy back the loss-making steelmaker Dunaferr from Ukraine's ISD group, to prevent a layoff of 1,500 workers planned by the company, Economy Minister Mihaly Varga said on Monday, according to a Reuters report.

19 August 2013 - United States Steel Corporation's Board of Directors elected president and chief operating officer Mario Longhi as a director, and announced that he will succeed Chairman John P. Surma as chief executive officer effective 1 September 2013. Surma will retain the position of executive chairman through 31 December 2013 when he will retire from the company and from the board of directors.

19 August 2013 - A blast furnace has gone down at ArcelorMittal Indiana Harbor, the largest steelmaking complex in North America, according to a report for the Times of Northwest Indiana.

19 August 2013 - AK Steel said that members of the United Steelworkers (USW) Local 1865 union have ratified an 18-month labor agreement covering more than 800 hourly production and maintenance steel operations employees at the company's Ashland, Ky., Works.

Metinvest Launches New Grade to Lower Steel Construction Costs

16 August 2013 - Metinvest’s integrated mill Azovstal launched production of S460M hot rolled plate according to the Ukrainian state standard DSTU EN 10025-4:2007. This product decreases steel required for building frames by 10–15%, which results in significant savings for developers.

Severstal Increases Supplies to the Construction Industry by 17% in First Half of Year

15 August 2013 - The Cherepovets Steel Mill, one of the world’s largest integrated steel mills and part of the Russian Steel division of OAO Severstal, announced that it boosted supplies to building contractors in Russia up to 1,635,000 tonnes in the first half of 2013. This is a 17% increase from the same period in 2012.
