Nippon Steel Invests to Increase Capacity at NBC China
07/29/2011 - Nippon Steel Corp., together with joint capital subscribers, has decided to increase production capacity and expand the local fabrication setup at Nippon Steel Bar & CH Wire (China) Co., Ltd. (NBC China). Construction of a new integrated plant will increase capacity from 7000 to 42,000 tonnes/year.
Nippon Steel Corp., together with joint capital subscribers Matsubishi Metal Industry Co., Ltd., Miyazaki Seiko Co., Ltd., Sanyu Co., Ltd., Toyota Tsusho Corp., Metal One Corp., and Nippon Steel Trading Co., Ltd., decided to increase the productive capacity and substantially expand the local fabrication setup with respect to Nippon Steel Bar & CH Wire (China) Co., Ltd. (NBC China).
NBC China is now running at full capacity, with an existing capacity of 7000 tonnes/year. With the construction of a new integrated plant having the pickling, wire-drawing, and heat-treating equipment, the company’s productive capacity will increase to 42,000 tonnes/year.
The capacity increase of NBC China is intended to accurately respond to the continuing growth of wire for cold heading in China, while enhancing its competitiveness regarding quality, cost, and delivery.
Wire for cold heading is used as materials for automotive bolts, bearings, and other safety-related parts. Nippon plans to further strengthen its quality improvement and development capabilities, integrated from wire rod through to secondary fabricated products.
Start of operation of the new plant, located in Suzhou City, Jiangsu Province, China, is expected in March 2013.
Nippon Steel Bar & CH Wire (China) Co., Ltd. manufactures and sells steel wire for cold heading in China. NBC China was founded in 2006 and began operation in 2007. Underpinned by the growth of auto production in China, it is now running at full capacity.
