Outokumpu Appoints Executive VP, Specialty Stainless
07/21/2011 - Outokumpu Group announced the appointment of Jarmo Tonteri as Executive Vice President - Specialty Stainless and member of the Group's Executive Committee.
Outokumpu Group announced the appointment of Jarmo Tonteri as Executive Vice President - Specialty Stainless and member of the Group's Executive Committee. The appointment takes effect August 1, 2011.
In his new position, Tonteri will be responsible for Outokumpu's business units Special Coil, Special Plate and Long Products as well as the thin and precision strip mill Kloster and Group R&D. He will be based in Stockholm. He will report to CEO Mika Seitovirta.
Tonteri, born 1952, has over 30 years' experience in the metals industry and over 20 years' experience in the steel business. He has worked outside Finland for over 20 years, first in the US and since 1992 in Sweden, where he held several managing director positions in the Swedish operations of the steel construction and engineering company Rautaruukki. Since 2005, Tonteri was Managing Director of Ovako, a leading European producer of long special steel products, from which position he retired in spring 2011.
“Jarmo has exceptionally vast experience in implementing structural changes and turning loss-making operations to sustainable profitability,” said CEO Mika Seitovirta. “He has spent most of his career in the steel industry and he knows the customers of our specialty stainless business extremely well. I am very pleased to have him in the Outokumpu team and have full confidence that we can together take a new direction for specialty stainless.”
Tonteri, a Finnish citizen, holds a Master of Technology (metallurgy) from Helsinki University of Technology and a Master of Economics from Helsinki School of Economics.
