Outokumpu to Supply Stainless Rebar for Infrastructure Project
06/16/2011 - Outokumpu will supply about 300 tonnes of LDX 2101® duplex stainless steel rebar to be used in a viaduct for the construction of the Norra Länken traffic route in Stockholm, Sweden.
Outokumpu will supply duplex stainless steel rebar for the construction of the Norra Länken traffic route in Stockholm, Sweden, the purpose of which is to reduce traffic and improve the environment in the city center.
The Swedish construction company Skanska has ordered about 300 tonnes of Outokumpu LDX 2101® duplex stainless steel rebar to be used in a viaduct. Outokumpu says that the grade offers good price stability compared to traditional stainless steel grades since it contains a lower percentage of nickel.
The rebar is produced at Outokumpu's plant in Sheffield, U.K.
"Stainless steel rebar has high corrosion resistance and it withstands highly corrosive road salts better than carbon steel, which is traditionally used in rebar,” said Mats Segerbäck from Outokumpu.
Duplex rebar is gaining popularity in concrete reinforcements, the company claims, as it has been used successfully in demanding structures such as in bridges and other road infrastructure.
Outokumpu is a global leader in stainless steel with customers in a wide range of industries. The company employs about 8000 people in more than 30 countries. The Group's head office is located in Espoo, Finland.
