Outotec to Deliver Two Sinter Plants for SAIL
10/29/2007 - Outotec will design and deliver two iron ore sinter plants capable of producing 3.8 million tonnes of iron sinter per year for Steel Authority of India.
Outotec (formerly Outokumpu Technology) has been awarded a contract by Steel Authority of India Ltd (SAIL) for the design and delivery of two iron ore sinter plants. The sinter plants will be supplied on a turn-key basis as part of a consortium with Larsen & Toubro Ltd.
The new plants will be built at SAIL’s IISCO Steel Plant located at Burnpur, West Bengal where they will produce 3.8 million tonnes of iron sinter per year. They are part of SAIL's program of expanding its annual capacity at IISCO by 2.5 million tonnes of crude steel.
Outotec's scope covers engineering, supply of proprietary and special equipment, and supply of technical services. Larsen & Toubro Ltd. will cover engineering and supply of local mechanical, electrical and instrumentation works and complete site services including civil, structural and construction works. Outotec's contract value exceeds EUR 22 million.
Outotec is also building two sinter plants in India for Tata Steel, one in Jamshedpur and another in Orissa, as well as two plants for JSW Steel in Toranagallu, according to Tapani Järvinen, President and CEO of Outotec.
SAIL’s new sinter plants are expected to become operational in early 2010.
