Posco-IDPC Breaks Production Record
07/09/2009 - Posco-IDPC celebrates the successful processing of steel at the rate of 8000 tonnes a month, as it continues to work toward its goal of producing 9000 tonnes of steel per month by the end of the year.
Posco-IDPC recently celebrated the achievement of a new milestone, with the successful processing of steel at the rate of 8000 tonnes a month. The company said it will continue to work to reach its goal of producing 9000 tonnes of steel per month by the end of the year.
The company achieved its production goal of 5000 tonnes in December, and then set a new production record in March when it processed 7829 tonnes. After adding more processing capability over the next three months, the company then processed 8,022 tonnes of steel in a month, setting yet another production record.
The increased production followed an increase in sales to one of its major clients, Maruti Suzuki, which the company said is partly due to the ongoing Indian economic recovery.
When Posco-IDPC started up operations in 2008, its sales to Maruti Suzuki accounted for abut 60% of the new plant’s total sales. Since that time, the company has added more than 140 new client firms, and the plant’s productivity has continued to improve, nearly doubling from its initial monthly production rate of 5000 tonnes.
Posco-IDPC specializes in processing steel sheets for automobiles. Rather than just processing and selling steel, the company aims to build a supply chain that can provide quality sheets. It has recently tried to construct an advanced supply channel, such as building a JIT system with Hero Honda.
Meanwhile, Posco-IDPC is offering cultural and educational programs to help Indian staff members learn more about Posco’s spirit and corporate culture. High-performing Indian staff members will eventually have a chance to visit Posco’s headquarters in Korea.
