Posco-Mexico Achieves Qualification for Auto Outer Steel
02/18/2011 - Posco-Mexico has acquired qualification for outer steel plate of automobiles for the first time since it launched production of auto steel plates in August 2009.
Posco-Mexico has acquired qualification for outer steel plate of automobiles for the first time since it launched production of auto steel plates in August 2009.
Outer steel plates are high-quality products that require strict quality assurance over the entire production stage, spanning from material production to delivery. As such, only a few steel mills around the world are able to produce and supply the products. This makes Posco-Mexico’s achievement particularly meaningful as a demonstration of global Posco’s technological excellence in the region.
Posco-Mexico’s victory, however, was no easy achievement. Since its first production in June 2009, Posco-Mexico made continuous efforts to address its business scale and resource shortage. The real challenge was to train local employees in acquiring technological know-how in manufacturing steel plates.
A team comprising a technology supervisor and professionals was dispatched from Gwangyang Works to assist with training sessions. Posco-Mexico also established relations with a GA construction material provider to better prepare itself for auto material production. Employees put in extra working hours during production and operated in accordance with a strict quality assurance program.
Posco-Mexico passed the ISO/TS16949 quality assurance tests conducted in early February, demonstrating its capability to supply steel plates to any auto maker in the world.
