Posco Ready to Implement Hanoi Urban Plan
08/15/2011 - Posco Engineering and Construction (E&C) recently completed its design of a master plan for Hanoi’s urban development project.
Posco Engineering and Construction (E&C) recently completed its design of a master plan for Hanoi’s urban development project, having won the right to develop the urban modernization plan in a $6.4 million bid in 2008.
Posco E&C received final authorization for its plan — the Hanoi Master Plan — from the Vietnamese government on July 26. The plan, which is ready to be implemented, is expected to foster growth and create an attractive investment environment for Vietnam’s capital city. The project, which will more than triple the area of Hanoi, is a government-led initiative aiming to raise Hanoi’s profile as an international city.
Unprecedented for the country in scope and size, the comprehensive project covers new urban development, road construction, water supply, sewage systems, river improvement, rail completion and information technology.

The plan incorporated Green Corridors, designated areas protecting wildlife populations from human activities. The Green Corridors are part of Posco E&C’s plan to build a sustainable urban environment by preventing indiscriminate development.
Posco E&C is also seeking to take an active role in the construction of the project, which will contribute to the development of Vietnam and promote Posco’s competitiveness in urban planning. Posco’s success is expected to pave the way for other Korean construction companies to participate in local urban development projects overseas.
In celebration of successful completion of the plan, Posco E&C delivered a large replica of the city valued at $2.8 million to the government to be used for future PR purposes. The replica was placed at the Hanoi National Urban Planning Exhibition Hall, which opened on July 29, to celebrate completion of the Hanoi Master Plan. The celebration was attended by many government officials, including Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung.
