Posco to Open Plant Next Year at Supplier Park in India

Posco broke ground for Posco-ICPC at the Renault-Nissan Supplier Park in Chennai, India, on September 30. It will have an annual output capacity of 120,000 tonnes of automobile sheets. Construction is scheduled to be completed in late April 2010.

The company notes that the Chennai region in southeastern India has witnessed growing demand for automobile steel as major automakers such as Renault-Nissan, Ford, Mahindra & Mahindra, and Hyundai Motor India expand or build production factories in the region.

Posco-ICPC is expected to provide its clients with various services, including auto sheet supply and technology support.

Posco built the first and second plant of Posco-IPPC in Pune in December 2006 and April 2009, respectively. The company also started operating Posco-IDPC near Delhi in December 2007.

When Posco-ICPC begins operating, Posco says it will link India’s three major automotive cities: Pune, Delhi, and Chennai.
