Russula Starts up Water Treatment Plant for Votorantim’s Resende Unit

Russula has started up a complete water treatment plant it supplied as a turn-key project for Votorantim Siderurgia Group’s Resende Unit. With operations scheduled to begin next month, Votorantim’s Resende Unit is the first plant in Brazil designed for steel production with mechanical filters and performance guarantees based on roll life measured in tons/groove.

Russula’s innovative design is based on a twin decanting concept, complete with mechanical ring filtration and modular cooling towers. The recirculating water system is designed to meet stringent water quality requirements, including total suspended solids, pH and temperature.

The complete water treatment plant was supplied for Votorantim’s new one million tons/year Meltshop and 500,000 tons/year high speed wire rod mill, with a total contact water flow rate of 3,100 m3/hour (13,648 gpm) and total non-contact water flow rate of 7,754 m3/hour (34,136 gpm).

Russula is an independent engineering company specializing in water treatment plants, and electrical upgrades and modernization projects for the steel industry with major offices in Brazil, Spain, Argentina, USA and India.
