Ruukki Concludes Negotiations at Kalajoki Unit

Rautaruukki's Ruukki Construction division has concluded the employer-employee negotiations which had been initiated in March of this year at the Kalajoki unit in Finland. The negotiations had targeted improved operational efficiency and integration of production.

Although Rautaruukki has plants at the Kalajoki unit that serve both the construction and engineering industries, following these negotiations, both plants will manufacture components for the engineering industry.

The employer-employee negotiations, which applied to Ruukki Construction's personnel, resulted in the transfer of 35 persons to Ruukki Engineering division as well as 12 redundancies.

A maximum of 15 of those affected by the negotiations will be temporarily laid off. These lay-offs, which are due to production conditions, will take place between May and August.

Ruukki employs a total of around 130 people at Kalajoki.

Rautaruukki supplies metal-based components, systems and integrated systems to the construction and engineering industries, offering a wide selection of metal products and services. Rautaruukki has operations in 26 countries, employs 14,300 people, and reported net sales of EUR 3.9 billion in 2008. The corporation uses the marketing name Ruukki.
