Ruukki Conducts Negotiations for Layoffs in Ruukki Metals, Ruukki Construction

Rautaruukki's Ruukki Metals division has initiated employer-employee negotiations to temporarily lay off salaried personnel due to on continued deterioration of market conditions.

The negotiations concern a total of around 340 salaried and senior salaried employees in Finland. They do not, however, apply to salaried employees working in production or laboratory functions, where temporary layoffs have already begun.

Ruukki Metals is planning to implement the layoffs during the second and third quarters, and expects that its need to temporarily lay off personnel will affect all persons coming within the negotiations. The company said the duration of the layoffs would become clear as the negotiations move forward.

Ruukki’s construction division, Ruukki Construction, concluded employer-employee negotiations this week for reduction of the workforce and temporary lay-off of personnel at its Alajärvi, Vimpeli and Peräseinäjoki units in Finland. The negotiations resulted in 34 redundancies, around 15 of which will be achieved through pension arrangements. About 115 additional people are also to be temporarily laid off at these units, although the company noted this number could increase depending on market conditions.
