SAIL Inaugurates New Unit at Rourkela Steel Plant

Air Separation Unit-3 at Tonnage Oxygen Plant-II of SAIL's Rourkela Steel Plant has been inaugurated by C.S. Verma, Chairman of Steel Authority of India Ltd.

The Air Separation Unit-III, which has capacity to produce 700 tonnes of oxygen per day, will help the blast furnaces improve hot metal production. The new unit also will facilitate simultaneous blowing of the convertors in SMS-II, which in turn will improve the efficiency of the steel melting shop.

Verma also inaugurated the High Top Pressure at Blast Furnace-III of Rourkela Steel Plant. The project, carried out using in-house resources, is designed for top pressure up to 0.4 kg/cm2, which will help to increase the production and productivity of the blast furnace.

B.B. Singh, Director (Personnel), SAIL, and G.S. Prasad, CEO of Rourkela Steel Plant, were among the senior officers present on the occasion.
