SAIL Receives Shining Star CSR Award
02/23/2011 - Steel Authority of India Limited has received the inaugural Wockhardt Shining Star CSR Award in recognition of its corporate social responsibility activities.
Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL) has received recognition for its corporate social responsibilities with its receipt of the inaugural Wockhardt Shining Star CSR Award in the Iron & Steel Sector category.
"SAIL contributes to society through its schools, hospitals, health centers, sports academies and other activities,” noted Verma in his acceptance speech. “In fact SAIL's annual spend on CSR activities goes much beyond the stipulated 2 per cent of distributable surplus."
SAIL serves the neighboring community through 17 hospitals, 7 specialty hospitals and 54 primary health centers. SAIL contributes to educational development through 146 schools in SAIL townships and 286 schools outside its townships. The company runs five sports academies for hockey, football, athletics and archery, and has other sports facilities and programs for all-round development of sports.
The Wockhardt Shining Star CSR Award was presented by Sh. Salman Khurshid, Honourable Union Cabinet Minister for Water Resource and Minority Affairs, to SAIL Chairman C.S. Verma at a glittering ceremony held at Mumbai on February 19, in the distinguished presence of Nobel Laureate Prof. Muhammad Yunus.
