Salzgitter Appoints New CEO
07/06/2021 - Gunnar Groebler has been appointed the new chairman of the executive board and chief executive officer of Salzgitter AG, effective 1 July 2021, the steelmaker has announced.
Groebler succeeds Heinz Jörg Fuhrmann, who retired, and has been a member of the executive board since 17 May 2021.
“I am looking forward to my tasks and challenges within the Salzgitter Group. Thanks to the fine work done in the past, and despite the huge challenges presented by the pandemic, the company now stands on a firm footing for which I would like to thank the entire team, but especially Prof. Fuhrmann. Our aim is now to further the development of the group as a future-orientated steel and technology group.”
In his new role, Groebler intends to place special emphasis on SALCOS – Salzgitter Low CO2-Steelmaking.
“This transformation project aimed at low-CO2 steel production makes Salzgitter AG a leader in the steel industry. We will be moving swiftly to reinforce our excellent position.”
Prior to joining Salzgitter AG, Groebler held executive positions at Vattenfall.
