Shandong Zhongxin Taps Primetals Technologies for Coupled Pickling Line, Tandem Cold Mill
08/21/2025 - Primetals Technologies has been tapped to deliver a coupled pickling line and tandem cold mill (PLTCM) for Chinese steel producer Shandong Zhongxin’s plant in Lin Yi, China.
The company said the new line will accelerate development and production of high-quality, high-value-added products. This will allow them to expand into the home appliances and automotive steel markets in eastern China.
Primetals Technologies said it will supply the complete PLTCM line including electrical design, site services, equipment supply, and complete level 1 and 2 automation systems with comprehensive digitalization solutions.
The pickling line will have the iBox pickling system that increases capacity without the circulation pumps needed in conventional jet pickling tanks. It will also have a 5-stand, 6-high universal crown control mill.
The line will feature AI-driven process optimization and sophisticated automation systems for improved strip flatness and thickness control. The central operation cockpit and computer-vision-based digital assistants will allow for a single operator to oversee multiple plant sections. It will also have a through-process quality control system and an asset life expert condition monitoring system.
The company said start-up is scheduled for 2027.
