Sidersa Orders MIDA QLP-DUE Mini-Mill From Danieli
01/05/2026 - Danieli announced Argentinian steelmaker Sidersa has ordered a MIDA QLP-DUE mini-mill to be installed in San Nicolás de los Arroyos.
The companies said the new mini-mill will produce straight bars in bundles and wire rod, and process scrap into new products. They estimate it will have an annual capacity of 360,000 metric tons.
The mini-mill will operate patented technologies including the Digimelter, Digirefiner, a single-strand Octocaster and a rolling mill. Endless charging allows for scrap preheating, reducing melting energy requirements, and carbon and NOx emissions.
Q-One is hybrid-ready by design, allowing for the use of renewable energy with low impact on the power grid, the companies said.
The single-strand Octocaster will feed a 20 housingless-stand bar mill and a wire rod line with an 8-pass fast-finishing block with 154-mm octagonal endless billets. The direct rolling bundling station delivers bars into the cooling bed in a narrow, optimized space with in-line quenching.
Danieli said it will supply auxiliary equipment including fume and water treatment plants. It will also deliver the process and auxiliary cranes. The mini-mill will be run by Danieli Automation control systems.
The companies said start-up is scheduled for the first half of 2028.
