Siemens to Equip Bar Mill for Thep Viet Steel
02/07/2008 - Thep Viet Steel of Vietnam places order with Siemens Metals Technologies to equip a new bar mill at the company's Ba Ria facility.
Thep Viet Steel Co. Ltd. of Vietnam has placed an order with Siemens Metals Technologies to equip a new bar mill at the company's Ba Ria facility. The volume of the order is in the two-digit million euro range.
Thep Viet Steel Corp., a leading producer of structural steel in Vietnam, is building a new bar mill in Ba Ria-Vung Tau province in the south-east part of the country. The new plant will have an annual capacity of 450,000 tonnes.
The new rolling mill is part of an expansion project that aims at reducing Vietnam's dependence on imported steel products.
Siemens will supply the mechanical components for the new plant, as well as the electrical and automation systems. Mechanical equipment will include a billet reheat furnace, 19 rolling stands, a 78-meter-long cooling section, and cutting and handling machines. Siemens will also provide consulting services for construction and commissioning of the new plant.
Siemens Metals Technologies had previously equipped a bar and wire rod mill for Thep Viet Steel’s subsidiary, Pomina Steel Co. Ltd., in Binh Duong province.
The new bar mill is scheduled to start production in the middle of 2009.
