Siemens to Install HMI System at Baotou Compact Hot Rolling Mill
09/15/2009 - Siemens VAI Metals Technologies receives order from Baotou Steel for a new HMI system for its compact hot rolling mill. Conversion work is scheduled for April 2010.
Siemens VAI Metals Technologies has received an order from Baotou Steel International Economic &Trading to supply a new HMI system for Baotou Iron & Steel Co., Ltd.’s compact hot rolling mill. The conversion work is scheduled for April 2010.
Baotou Iron & Steel of China has been operating a compact hot rolling mill with an annual capacity of up to 2.8 million tonnes in Inner Mongolia since 2001. The plant includes a two-strand continuous slab caster, seven-stand finishing mill, and two coilers, for which Siemens has already supplied the drive equipment and automation systems.
For this current project, the compact hot rolling mill is to be fitted with HMI equipment based on Simatic WinCC. All the components and systems to be used are part of the Siroll HM solution platform for hot rolling mills.
The compact hot rolling mill will be the third installation at Baotou Iron & Steel to be equipped with a Siemens HMI solution, after the coupled tandem pickling line and the plate mill.
In 2006, Siemens expanded the six-stand finishing mill by retrofitting a seventh stand, plus a roll gap lubrication system, an automatic leveling control (ALC) system, and a looper flatness control (LFC) system.
