Siemens to Supply Two Additional Finishing Stands for Chinalco Hot Rolling Mill
06/19/2008 - Siemens VAI Metals Technologies will supply and install two additional finishing stands for Chinalco Aluminum’s aluminum hot rolling mill at Chinalco Ruimin in Mawei, Fuzhou.
Chinalco Aluminum Co., Ltd., China, has placed orders with Siemens VAI Metals Technologies for two additional finishing stands for the aluminum hot rolling mill of Chinalco Ruimin Co., Ltd. in Mawei, Fuzhou. Chinalco had previously ordered the supply of the mechanical and electrical equipment of a single stand finishing mill in the fall of 2007.
The finishing mill will be in a planned new aluminum hot rolling mill that is to be set up as part of a large expansion project that Chinalco Ruimin is executing over the next few years. The finishing mill, to be equipped by Siemens, will have a total of three four-high stands with automatic hydraulic roll gap control and positive and negative work-roll bending. The new finishing mill will raise the planned capacity of the 2.4-meter hot rolling mill to 375,000 tonnes per year.
In addition to the mechanical equipment, Siemens will also supply the complete automation system and the drive systems, including Sinamics SM150 medium-voltage converters and Sinamics S120 low-voltage converters, as well as the sensors. The automation system will include basic automation including the technological control systems and the human-machine interface equipment.
Siemens’ scope of supply also includes process automation for the entire hot rolling mill. The resulting integrated system will ensure a consistent, high product quality. All systems and components will be part of Siemens’ “Siroll Alu,” integrated solution platform for aluminum hot rolling mills. Siemens will also be responsible for commissioning and training.
The extended order has a volume of around 15 million euros and is due to be completed in September 2009.
Chinalco Ruimin is part of the Chinalco Aluminum Group, China’s leading producer of aluminum flat products.
